Dead Can Dance - Biografia - Discografia

Dead Can Dance é uma banda de Ethereal composta por Lisa Gerrard (vocalista), Brendan Perry (guitarra), Paul Erikson e Simon Monroe, formada em Melbourne, em 1981, na Austrália. Pouco tempo depois, Lisa e Perry mudam-se para Londres, ficando os restantes membros na Austrália.
Ja em londres, o grupo assina um contrato com a 4AD, uma editora dedicada à música alternativa. O sucesso da banda, logo os consagra como uma das mais importantes desta editora.
O género musical da banda caracteriza-se por um conjunto de estilos, destacando-se o darkwave, com fusão de world music, música medieval e da Renascença europeia.
Em 1984, lançam o primeiro álbum, Dead Can Dance e, no mesmo ano, trabalham conjuntamente com os This Mortal Coil, na música It'll End In Tears. No ano seguinte lançam o segundo álbum Spleen and Ideal, que atinge o 2 na tabela independente do Reino Unido.
O quarto álbum, The Serpent's Egg, é editado em 1988, e escrevem a banda sonora do filme El ,Nino de la Luna, de Agustin Villarongas, onde Lisa faz a sua estreia como actriz.
Em 1990, lançam Aion, e fazem a sua primeira turnê nos EUA. O álbum de 1993, Into the Labyrinth, é o primeiro álbum da banda a ser editado nos EUA, tornando-se um sucesso, também, na Europa. Na sequência, o grupo realiza nova turnê pelos EUA e Europa, gravando-a em Toward the Within, de 1994. Paralelamente, Lisa Gerrard grava o seu primeiro álbum a solo em 1995, The Mirror Pool.
Os Dead Can Dance separam-se em 1999. Lisa continua o seu trabalho a solo, e escreve músicas para filmes como Heat, The Insider e Gladiator. Em 2000 grava novo álbum, Eye of the Hunter e, juntamente com Patrick Cassidy, lança mais um trabalho, Immortal Memory.
O grupo voltou a reunir-se em 2005 para uma tour pela Europa e América do Norte.
